Doom's Brink: The primitives take Ula prisoner, and throw her into a cell with an ancient native hag left to guard her closely. N'Kima has escaped capture, meantime, and summons Tarzan, who races to the Lost City. Meanwhile, Raglan has reached the port city of Mantique and meets a confederate, Pedro, who advises him that a Captain Blade has a ship waiting for him and the Goddess, just off the coast. Back at the Lost City, Tarzan appears and is immediately captured by the natives. He is placed in a cell adjoining Ula's, bound hand and foot, and watches as a lion is chained to the cell's wall just out of reach of Tarzan. Martling and George are brought to the Lost City's torture chamber, to be forced to reveal the whereabouts of the Goddess to the High Priest and the nameless white man. The old hag attacks Ula with a knife, but Ula knocks her out, then notices a small hole in the wall of her cell. Through it she can see Tarzan in the next cell, where the lion is lunging repeatedly at the helpless apeman, with such vigor that a link on the chain has begun to give way. As Ula watches in horror, the link snaps and the lion springs directly at the apeman! Secret Signals: Before the chain has broken, Ula has been able to widen the hole in the wall, reach through and cut Tarzan's bonds with the hag's knife. Tarzan kills the lion in a furious fight, then further widens the hole so that Ula can join him in his cell. There, Tarzan let's out a yell and, when two hooded guards enter to investigate, he overpowers these natives and takes their cloaks and hoods as disguises for Ula and himself. Thus disguised, Tarzan and Ula reach the torture chamber as George is being tortured with hot pokers pressed to the soles of his feet. Tarzan is able to surreptitiously untie Martling, and together they overcome the torturers. The nameless white man, horrified by the treatment of George, turns on the High Priest, and Tarzan knocks over a flaming urn, causing an explosion which brings the torture room down. Tarzan, Ula, Martling and George escape the Lost City and, well down the river, meet Lopez, whom Ula knows and who is the mysterious man who overheard Raglan's conversation with Pedro. They all return to Mantique, where Raglan spies Ula at a hotel and learns the others are in the city also. Tarzan reaches the docks first, however, and overcomes several Raglan henchmen; but Raglan pulls a pistol and shoots the ape-man at point blank range! Death's Fireworks: Just as Raglan fires, Tarzan lunges at him and the bullet passes harmlessly over his head. Raglan escapes after a brief struggle, but Tarzan has the Goddess! Joined by the others, he transports the totem to a nearby shack, where Martling safely opens it. A fortune in jewels tumbles out, along with the explosives formula written in ancient hieroglyphics, and a sample of the unknown substance as well. Raglan's associate, Captain Blade, is aware of this course of events, and has arranged with the port official that his wood schooner is the only one available for charter out of Guatemala. Unaware of his association with Raglan, Martling and George, Ula, and Tarzan all book passage, and they set sail later that day. As night falls, a violent storm rises and Ula spots Raglan as he sneaks up on deck for a look around. She alerts Tarzan. Blade, learning of this, furiously shoots Raglan to death for giving the scheme away, then has Ula, Martling and George locked in their cabins. The crew then becomes preoccupied with the hurricane, trying to save the ship, and Tarzan, still free, overcomes Blade and throws him overboard. Ula shoots the lock off her cabin door and joins Tarzan on deck. George and Martling remain below, tied up in their cabin. The hurricane is at its peak, and the ship begins to break up! Unseen Hands: Tarzan is knocked out by the fall, allowing Raglan and his men to escape again with the Goddess. Martling and George find the reviving Tarzan and learn he has recovered the codebook during the fight. In the hotel room, they also find the wire from Powers and set out for Quirigua, along with Ula who knows the way there. In the jungles, Tarzan leaves his three comrades on the trail and sets off through the trees. Raglan leaves his men in an encampment and proceeds alone to Quirigua to hide the Goddess. Tarzan's pursuit is delayed when he stops to help and injured deer and is subsequently attacked by a lioness, which he defeats. Martling, George and Ula reach Quirigua, where Raglan has hidden the goddess and is able to slip away undetected while they tour the ruins. Tarzan finds the encampment of Raglan's men, and there is a furious battle. Several bearers restrain Tarzan while one of their number plunges a machete straight at Tarzan's heart! Fatal Fangs: Tarzan knocks out his attacker with a well-placed kick, but the other natives overpower him. The two white henchman decide he should be kept alive in case Raglan wants to question him about the codebook. They have the apeman bound to a tree, then send the bearers to Quirigua while they wait in a shady glade. With the thugs out of sight, Tarzan expands his chest muscles and biceps and bursts his bonds, then thrashes the two thugs and runs them off, then proceeds to Quirigua. Meanwhile, Martling, George and Ula encounter a native who requests their help with a sick white man. Martling goes and finds it is Raglan, delirious with a sudden jungle fever. Waiting for Martling's return, George becomes restless and goes for a walk alone in the jungle. He becomes hopelessly entangled in a web of vines. Tarzan, hearing his cries for help, hastens to the rescue but springs a panther trap set by natives. A springboard armed with wooden spikes crushes him to the ground! Flaming Water: The stakes miss Tarzan's lean body, and he quickly extricates himself, then frees George from the vines and returns with him to Ula. Martling leaves the side of the ailing Raglan, who has come out of his delirium and, realizing his position, staggers off, returing to Quirigua, where he retrieves the Goddess and heads off into the jungles. Learning of this, Tarzan, Martling and George give chase while Ula steps behind a blanket draped across a vine and changes into a native-girl outfit, as N'Kima watches her from the trees. Meanwhile, back at the Lost City, the High Priest stirs the natives to action in retrieving the Goddess, and a platoon of black-robed and hooded, machete-wielding primitives set off into the jungles to rescue their idol. They soon encounter Tarzan, but he escapes them after a furious fight and goes to warn Martling and George of the new menace. They, in turn, go to find Ula, who has broken camp and set out along the riverbank in her native garb. George asks for a brief rest as they follow Ula, and is attacked by a herd of snapping turtles while he sits on a log. The exasperated Martling pulls out his handkerchief, and the codebook falls from his pocket. George tries to grab it but only succeeds in knocking it into the river. Tarzan dives in after it, retrieves the notebook, but is caught in the rapids and swept over a fall as Ula watches in horror from below. Angry Gods: Tarzan survives the fall and grabs a floating log. Ula and her two bearers see him floating in the water and row to his rescue in a handy kayuka. Ula tells the rapidly recovering Tarzan that she has seen Raglan heading downstream in another canoe. Meantime, the hooded troops of the Lost City capture Martling and George. Nango, one of Ula's bearers, witnesses this and informs Ula and Tarzan, who decide their rescue is the first mission. The New Adventures of Tarzan: The Green Goddess is a totem worshiped by the primitive natives of a lost city deep in the jungles of Guatemala. It contains both a fortune in jewels and an ancient formula for a super-explosive which could threaten world safety in the wrong hands. From Africa, Major Martling and Ula Vale launch separate expeditions to find the Goddess and place its secrets in safe hands. Ula's fiance died in an earlier attempt at the same goal and she has taken up the trail in his memory against the advice of her lawyer, Hiram Powers, who covets the Goddess for himself and sends Raglan, a mercenary, to get it for him. Aboard their ship to Guatemala is Lord Greystoke - aka Tarzan - on a mission to find his old friend, d'Arnot, whose plane crashed in the vicinity of the same lost city. Tarzan joins forces with Martling, and they reach the lost city in time to save d'Arnot, but lose the Goddess to Raglan. Ula joins Tarzan and Martling in pursuit of Raglan, whence they must contend with the perils of the jungle, Raglan's henchmen, and a party of primitives from the lost city sent to retrieve the Goddess... Crossed Trails: Madly in love with Tarzan, Queen Maya stays her hand. Suddenly, the natives notice Raglan lowering a noose through the temple's chimney-hole from above, snagging the Green Goddess and hauling it away. D'Arnot frees Tarzan from the altar, and the apeman rescues the Martling party, who were about to be thrown into a pit of alligators. In the ensuing confusion, they escape aboveground, where George rescues them with a machine gun he's been carrying concealed in a black case. Raglan escapes with the Goddess, but drops the codebook, unawares. George finds it and gives it to Martling for safekeeping. Ula, en route to the Lost City with her bearers, spots the fleeing Raglan and starts to follow, but is attacked by a panther. Tarzan rescues her, introduces her to Martling, explains their respective missions to each other, and gets them to agree to join forces. Without Ula, the others pursue Raglan, who has preceded them through an underground passage and set a dynamite trap. Unawares, the others follow into the passage, stumble over the trip-wire, and there is a terrific explosion. The Devils Noose: Unharmed, the Martling party find themselves trapped in the now-sealed passageway, and discover Tarzan has apparently fallen through a hole in the tunnel floor into a watery pit filled with alligators. Tarzan miraculously eludes the reptiles and surfaces in a nearby river, where he meets Ula and N'Kima on shore. N'Kima informs Tarzan he has heard the others calling for help from the sealed tunnel, and Tarzan, Ula and her men dig them out. Meanwhile, Raglan discvers he's lost the notebook, caches the Goddess in a handy jungle shack, and backtracks himself to find it. He finds Tarzan, d'Arnot, the Martling party, and Ula and her men encamped for the night, and sees Martling with the codebook. When Martling goes for an evening stroll, Raglan jumps him and regains the book. Ula finds the recovering Martling and goes after Raglan. When she reaches the shack, Raglan knocks her out, sets fire to the shack and leaves with the Goddess. Tarzan, having also found Martling and learned what happened, is now on the trail and comes upon the burning shack. Hurrying to rescue Ula, he accidentally steps in a native animal trap and is whipped into the air by a noose, feet first! River pearls: Tarzan grabs his knife, cuts himself loose, races into the shack, and rescues Ula. Joined by the others, he leaves her in their care and sets off after Raglan. Raglan sends his men, Paco and Nahua, to Livingston with a message for Hiram Powers, then continues through the jungles with the Goddess, heading for Puerto Barrios.
